Inne rojenia dotyczące obu filmów imbd 16 out of 20 people found the following comment useful :- A great not-a-lot-of-brain pure adrenalin movie, 26 June 2006 9/10 Author: jean-no from Paris In the usual big-budget American action movie of those days, there would be, besides the action, a love story and a bad boy redemption. No such crap here, this movie is much close to "Escape from New York" (I''d say it is even a little kind of a remake) than to an usual action blockbuster. There is not a lot of moral but some kind of a political message about the french suburbs. Anyhow the action is great, the acting is surprisingly good (even if I''m sure that the young Dany Verissimo - the girl - is not very well used). So ? Worth watching. Violent, like kids schoolyard games, not horrific (no torture, no blood), not "adult" (even if Dany Verissimo happens to be a famous adult movie actress), but not too unbelievable either : while you watch, you''re in, you believe in all, the action and the plot. Escape From Paris, 14 September 2006 Author: doomsyer from United States Before I start, I am just going to say I like this movie, it was well made, and blows most current action flicks away. That being said, I have a few problems with the flick. 9 outta 10 for action. 1. I am not going to call this a total rip-off because there are extreme differences, but whoever wrote this had to have watched Escape From New York about 100 times before they took pen to paper. While watching, I just kept having this feeling that I have been there and seen that. Maybe it was intentional. Just my opinion. 2. I wish I would have watched this movie with subtitles because the overdubbing was not that great. 3. They have a porno actress in the movie and she stays fully clothed. 4. The police officer/stunt coordinator did a great job, but to me, he looked way to flamboyant through most of the movie. Maybe it is a French thing. Made me dislike him slightly. Those are the only flaws I could find with the movie. Maybe others will not feel the same. Just my 2 cents worth. ne step away from a classic, 7 April 2006 Author: (dj_bassett) from Philadelphia *** This comment may contain spoilers *** Cross between ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and one of Jackie Chan''s more acrobatic entries, with our two heroes trying to find and defuse a neutron bomb in a walled-off ghetto outside of Paris. Even more than ESCAPE, this is only nominally sf, a small exaggeration of trends that a look at the news will show are present in France today. My only complaint is that these guys don''t have a sense of pace throughout the whole picture. Things just seem off. A fight with a "big boss" is set up to be a real hum-dinger, but ends far too quick, for instance. Another confrontation is signaled but never happens, which is disappointing. And while the fight sequences are very well done (I especially liked the fight in the underground casino), there''s surprisingly not enough of them. There''s a whole heck of a lot of flipping around and running about, which is fun to watch but not quite the same thing. These guys need to watch a few more Shaw Bros. movies, and get a better sense of how to put rhythm into an action movie. But this is entertaining, and worth seeing. A Future noir action extravaganza!, 1 February 2007 10/10 Author: Raegan Butcher from Raincity, Pacific Northwest If you crossed one of John Carpenter''s Snake Plissken films with one of the early Hong Kong shoot-em ups made by John Woo and added a boat-load of Jackie Chan styled acrobatics and bone-crunching martial arts, then you might be able to imagine the incredible action set-pieces that are welded to a super-cool futuristic dystopian setting in DISTRICT 13. Anyone who likes sci fi actioners should see it. Within the first 3 minutes I was completely pulled in by the pumping techno soundtrack and the super-stylish camera-prowl thru the decayed streets. DISTRICT 13 is one of the best action movies I''ve seen in the last 25 years. Check it out. Cyril - the next big action star?, 31 October 2005 8/10 Author: udar55 from Williamsburg, VA *** This comment may contain spoilers *** I watched the Thai DVD of this Luc Besson produced French action vehicle and I enjoyed it quite a bit. It is sort of like a Parisian ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK-lite with the ghettos of Paris walled off from the main city in 2010. A cop is partnered with a criminal city ghetto resident to try and stop a nuclear bomb from blowing up in 24 hours. You can really start to see the influence that ONG BAK has on Besson''s new productions. There are some really good fights in here. Sadly, the film is lacking that one BIG fight at the end. Also included are some fantastic car and foot chase scenes reminiscent of his other productions like the TAXI series and the dreadful YAMAKASI. Lead Cyril Raffaelli (he was the smaller bleach blonde twin fighter in Jet Li''s KISS OF THE DRAGON, another Besson production) is, quite possibly, one of the most amazing acrobats/martial artists working today. I''m excited to see what he will do next. Same goes for Belle who does some scary looking wire free climbing stunts. The script, by Besson and lead heavy Bibi Narceri, works well (like I said, it follows the EFNY mold pretty well) and they do inject a bit of social commentary in there. Well, as much as you can between guys kicking each other in the head. I will laugh when a US remake is announced. Non-stop stylish action that screams for more recognition, 18 September 2008 9/10 Author: Anthony Pittore III (Shattered_Wake) from Los Angeles, CA *** This comment may contain spoilers *** Take some ''Escape from New York'' and ''Mad Max,'' mix it with a bit of ''Fast and the Furious,'' ''The Matrix,'' and ''Bourne Identity,'' then throw in some of the best mixes of streetfighting, martial arts, and general ass-kickery ever put on film. . . and you''ll have ''Banlieue 13'' (aka ''District B13''). World-renowned cinematographer Pierre Morel (of ''The Transporter'' and ''War'') takes the director''s chair adapting the script written by Luc Besson (''Leon: The Professional'') and Bibi Naceri (''The Code'') which tells the tale of the criminal Lei"to (David Belle) and the cop Damien Tomaso (Cyril Raffaelli) who team up to attempt to infiltrate a crime organization located in the now-quarantined ghetto of Paris. Time is short, however, as Lei"to is in search of his kidnapped sister and Tomaso needs to find and defuse a stolen bomb set to destroy the ghetto and kill the millions of citizens within. Though the 2000s have been riddled with the so-called ''non-stop'' action flicks from Hollywood, very few could actually be considered as such. Perhaps the two most notable Hollywood entries in that category would be ''Smokin'' Aces'' and ''The Bourne Ultimatum,'' both of which are excellent action flicks and truly never seem to break from the intensity. ''Banlieue 13,'' though obviously not from Hollywood, is definitely part of this group of elite action films. Taking pretty much every great element of action from the past few decades (car chases, shootouts, robberies, kidnapping, murder, martial arts, bullet time, destruction, mayhem, etc.) and rolling them into one, ''B13'' becomes one of the most entertaining and stylish action films ever made. Pierre Morel, though not overly active as a director, obviously has a great talent at the visuals of a film due to his years as one of the top action cinematographers. Luc Besson, a modern legend of French cinema, co-writes a fantastic script with the little-known Bibi Naceri. The cast is fantastic, since they all do their jobs perfectly: great acting wasn''t necessary, but great action was. The stars, especially David Belle, put out almost exhausting performances that often left me breathless and shaking my head in fantastic disbelief. It''s violent, full of foul language and drug use. . . and I loved every moment of it. Un coup-de-te^te... solide!, 14 December 2006 8/10 Author: (Vomitron_G) from the Doomed Megalopolis of Blasphemous Technoids To be completely honest, I expected almost nothing from BANLIEUE 13 (B13). Not that I thought it was going to be bad, or that I looked down upon it or anything. It''s just that I new little about this movie. I just heard that this was another action-flick produced by Luc Besson, and I was thinking something along the lines of TAXI: Pretty cool action and rather silly humor (maybe with a bit more shoot-outs this time). And since I had my share of that after TAXI 2 (I didn''t even watch the third one... yet), it took a while before I finally came around to see BANLIEUE 13. Actually, it was my brother who recommended it to me (I consider his taste in movies to be pretty good, and similar to mine often). So I thought I''d give it a shot. And boy, did I have fun every single minute of the movie''s short 80 minutes runtime! It''s so fast-paced that you don''t have the time to even think about getting bored. In the very near future (2013, to be exact), crime-rate and gang warfare has increased to such a level that the government has build a big concrete wall around certain districts (or suburbs) of Paris. B13 obviously is the worst ghetto of them all. When crime-lord Taha Bermamud coincidentally gets his hands on a weapon of mass destruction, Capt. Damien Tomaso is send in, undercover, to locate and disarm the bomb in the center of Banlieue 13. Against all odds, he gets help from Lei"to, a convict who once was born and raised in B13, and he himself has still a score to settle with Taha Bermamud. Now the plot does owe more than a little bit to John Carpenter''s ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. But I won''t hold that against it. You might even see it as a respectful nod to Carpenter''s classic. Other than that, B13 tells its own story. And though it might be very thin, it does have all the enjoyable ingredients. Another good thing is, though it does carry a little social commentary, it doesn''t try to be the next LA HAINE in any way. BANLIEUE 13 is here to entertain (not to make you think very hard), and it''s good at that. The action mostly comes from incredibly choreographed and breathtaking fight-, shoot- and chase(mostly on foot)-sequences. Most of the acting of all the side characters is only so-so or just what you''d expect from an action-flick, but the two male leads (David Belle, in his first leading role as Lei"to and Cyril Raffaelli, who started out as a stunt choreographer in the late 90''s, as Damien Tomaso) are doing a damn fine job and even have a nice bit of chemistry together on-screen. But Bibi Naceri (who co-wrote the script together with Luc Besson) definitely is the most fun as Taha"Scarface"Bermamud. You can tell at times he has so much fun playing this role. The man really doesn''t do anything else but sniffing lines of coke and shooting people for no reason. Great stuff! Tony D''Amario is pretty good (and even important to the story) as Taha''s right hand K2 (nice haircut!). And finally, Dany Verissimo certainly is worth mentioning too, as Lei"to''s little sister Lola, putting down a solid performance in what could be considered a demanding role. Those are really all the characters in the story that matter, and they are all as much believable as they are caricatures (in some way or another). And that works just fine. I should also mention that this is Pierre Morel''s directorial debut. And his next step just might be directing some comfortable budgeted Hollywood action movie, if you ask me. The music is cool. The fight & chase scenes are pretty amazing. The action is faced-paced and there are quite a few twists in the light-weight plot too. I''m sure some elite group of so-called intellectuals will probably think this movie isn''t even worth the time it will them take to bash it. But any other movie-lover is bound to have fun with B13. Now, this movie is nothing short of being excellent, and I liked every bit of it... just up until that very last scene. The conclusion near the end was pretty good and I liked it. But why that little epilogue there near the wall of B13?. It''s just a bit too... oh, well, you''ll know it when you see. Have fun with B13! DISTRICT B13 (2006) **1/2 Cyril Raffaelli, David Belle, Tony D''Amario, Bibi Naceri, Dany Verissimo, Francois Chattot. Nicolas Woirion. (Dir: Pierre Morel) Rollicking actioner from the French Re-invigorates the action genre; go figure! The French – always crafty, independent to us Americans – continue their streak of international indifference by incorporating an astonishing, jaw- dropping art of movement called ''parkour'' – an athletic display of acrobatics involving free, boneless fluid movements overcoming obstacles like buildings, walls and other impossible feats of overcoming – in an odd, entertaining action piece set in the not-too-distant future. Set in a French ghetto where crime has run rampant to the point of establishment literally packing it in and leaving its environs to the riff-raff that has spread like a plague among its populace. It seems only one rag-tag civilian has a desire to stop the drug trafficking in his hometown neighborhood known as District B13, a demilitarized zone if there ever was one, Leito (Belle, reportedly a co-creator of the eye-popping parkour, resembling a cross between Colin Farrell and David Schwimmer) is shown in the opening sequence in possession of the drug thug''s heroin, promptly dissolving the cache in his grotty bathtub while the dealer''s henchman, K2 (the late D''Amario), literally a mountain of a man with such an appropro misnomer in pursuit with his idiot lackeys. When they find Leito, the limber citizen proceeds to dash away throughout the rotting building making impossible escapes with lithe, greased lighting precision and jaw-dropping Rube Goldbergian insight. Naturally the kingpin, Taha (Naceri, who co-scripted with filmmaker/producer Luc Besson) is PO''d and wants retribution so he has K2 kidnap Leito''s sister Lola (Verissimo, a Euro Jennifer Lewis) to act as bait which works only to Leito''s advantage when he saves her and holds Taha by gunpoint leaving the gauntlet of his goons to the police only to be incarcerated himself when the local enforcers are literally abandoning their prison. Cut a few years later and enter Damien (Raffaelli, suggesting the air let out of Vin Diesel-meets-Jason Statham), a crackerjack police officer whose undercover efforts please his bosses to the point of sending him on a suicide mission – infiltrate District B13 to dismantle a neutron bomb in possession – that''s right – by Taha. To do so he needs the help of the imprisoned Leito who has a personal score to settle: save his now drug-addicted enslaved sister from the diabolical Taha. The two team up and begin to do some serious damage. That''s all you really need to know in this adrenalized, pumped-up macho fest update of John Carpenter''s "Assault on Precinct 13" meets "Escape From New York" with a duo of Snake Plisskens by way of Cirque de Soleil. Otherwise the mishmash of sci-fi, action, cartoon comedy and socio-political machinations make a messy hybrid that is again incredibly achieved via the kinetic, hyper accentuated editing by Stephanie Gaurier and Frederic Thoraval, quicksilver cinematography of Manuel Teran set to a throbbing cheesy house music tech noir score by Bastide Donny, Da Octopuss and Damien Roques and no holds barred iconoclastic direction by Morel (who was d.p. for the last "Transporter" flick); a flaming Molotov cocktail of a film that has to be seen to be believed even if it is a bit tiresome. Well-made amalgam of "Escape from New York" and "Assault on Precinct 13", 15 September 2005 8/10 Author: cfisanick from Western Pennsylvania Luc Besson, who must be the busiest man in the industry, seems to have singlehandedly put France on the map as purveyor of well-made action films. And that''s not surprising since his team understands that a gazillion bucks, CGI, and wire work aren''t always needed to make an entertaining film. This one is no exception: straightforward and to the point, with an economy of direction and truly excellent, old school stuntwork. I think that it''s superior to the bigger budget stuff coming out of the Besson factory. In the end, it''s a fast and furious entertainment with charismatic leads and is sure to tickle the hearts--and action bones--of jaded action film fans. A French kung fu flick, 18 February 2006 5/10 Author: jjlasne from San Francisco This is the French version of a Hong Kong kung fu flick with plenty of violence and little character development. The story line is iffy at best and would not make any sense to an American audience trying to read the subtitles. The acting is poor and I did not know that wife beaters were in such fashion in 2010 unless global warming/climate change really did kick in by then. It takes place in Paris and its suburbs which is like now but worse, a lot worse. Some of the suburbs have been walled off a la Escape From New York and even the cops are moving out. Life is hopeless. Armed men watch apartment buildings. A ruthless drug boss rules B13 and even the cops are afraid of him. Watch this movie at your own risk but make sure your airline ticket to Paris is refundable. C'' est la vie!
